New features in ChanServ and NickServ! - Posted by ButtaKnife on March 12, 2010

Hey, everyone! It's about time we updated ChanServ and NickServ, isn't it? Today we have a few new goodies for you, and next week we'll add even more.

First, the popularity of the YouTube bot inspired us to include its abilities in ChanServ. Now, your own channels can have ChanServ grab YouTube links and tell you what the title of the video is! To turn on the feature, type:
!set youtubescan on
or /cs set #yourchannel youtubescan on
You may also restrict whose links are scanned by ChanServ. You can specify the access level required to have links scanned with:
!set youtubelevel LEVEL (where LEVEL is the access level from 0 (everyone) to 500 (channel owner only))
or /cs set #yourchannel youtubelevel LEVEL
The new YouTube feature is Off by default, and when enabled, is set to level 0 by default.

We have also spent some time working on NickServ and have improved a few things under the hood, but there are at least 3 things that you all may be interested in. There are two account new settings: AUTOJOIN and EMAILALERTS.
EMAILALERTS is a brand new feature that lets you receive emails to indicate if your account is about to expire or has expired. This is set to Off for existing accounts, but new accounts will have it set to On. In the future, this may also be used to send out emails for channels expiring, too, if that feature would be helpful. To turn on EMAILALERTS, simply type:
/ns set emailalerts on
AUTOJOIN is so that you can toggle your ChanServ autojoins, meaning any channel that you are set to join automatically because you typed !uset autojoin on or !autojoin on, in case you wish to turn them all off for a while. You can enable or disable autojoins with:
/ns set autojoin on/off
Also, if you only want to turn them off once while you are logging in to NickServ, you can now type NOAUTOJOIN after your NickServ password in the AUTH command to bypass the autojoins for that login only. So, if you feel anti-social one of these days, this will help you lay low for a while. :) Example auth with autojoins disabled: /auth MyAccount MyPass NOAUTOJOIN
