How To Utlilize Pidgin For IRC
1. Once downloaded, go to the directory where you download it at and double-click on the file.
2. Click Next > Next > Set your preferences (if you're not sure, leave them be and hit next)
3. Set your destination folder where you want GTK+ 2.12.1 to be installed (leave it be if you want it
installed in the default location)
4. Set your destination folder where you want Pigdin 2.2.2 to be installed (leave it be if you want it
installed in the default location). Once you set the folder, click on "Install" to install it.
5. Now you will be greeted by Pidgin instructing you that no IM accounts have been added or configured.
We will now "Add" IM accounts to start the process.
6. A pop-up screen will appear before you giving you different options for adding a new IM account.
Since we are focused on adding a "IRC" account, we will be adding and configuring that specifically
in the following steps.
Select "IRC" in the drop-down menu located in the "Protocol" field at the top below "Login Options".
The options has changed according to the IM account as you see below presented in the image.
7. Fill in the appropriate fields with your own Screen Name as you see in the image below:
(Optional: If you want to auto-auth to your NickServ account then you would need *@* added to your
account and put in the password field "/account/password" replacing account and password with
your own NickServ information.)
To set your ident, you would need to click on the "Advanced" tab and insert it in the "Username" field. Make sure to hit the "Save" button.
8. Once you have filled out everything, click on drop-down menu in the main Buddy list window and select "Available". Give it time to connect to the network.
9. When you get connected, type /j #globalgamers to join the channel.
10. CONGRATULATIONS! You have successfully installed and configured Pidgin correctly for IRC.
