Quotes Services Guide

In its search for unique features that are fairly unknown on services on other IRC networks, the Global Gamers staff has been working behind the scenes on a new service. Most people have already seen quote bots in various channels, but as of now the Global Gamers IRC network has network-wide quote services, available in any registered channel.

Each channel can add a maximum of 100 quotes to its database. Quotes are private or public, which can all be modified with /msg ChanServ QSET. For more information on this, see the QSET help below! Quotes that are set to public will eventually be visible from a quotes section on the website or from other channels once these features are added.

The quotes services include many commands to be used by people who have access in the channel in question. Here is a list of the available commands:

QUOTE - Displays a quote.
/msg ChanServ QUOTE <#chan> [search string OR quote id]
!quote [search string OR quote id]
The search string or quote ID are optional. If omitted, it will display a random quote. If a quote ID is given, it will display that specific quote ID. If a search string is given it will try to find a quote matching that string. Example: !quote iknietjij will display a random quote matching *iknietjij*.

ADDQUOTE - Adds a quote to the database.
/msg ChanServ ADDQUOTE <#chan> <quote>
!addquote <quote>

DELQUOTE - Removes one (or multiple) quote(s) from the database.
/msg ChanServ DELQUOTE <#chan> <quote ID> [quote ID [quote ID [...]]]
!delquote <quote ID> [quote ID [quote ID [...]]]

QSET - Displays or changes quote settings.
/msg ChanServ QSET <#chan> [setting] [value]
!qset [setting] [value]
Settings are:

  • ENABLED: Whether or not the quote features are enabled for the channel.
  • GLOBAL: Whether or not quotes that are added are globally visible.
  • REPLYPUBLIC: Whether or not to reply to quote commands in public.
  • QUOTELEVEL: The level required to view quotes.
  • ADDQUOTELEVEL: The level required to add quotes.
  • DELQUOTELEVEL: The level required to delete quotes.
  • QSETLEVEL: The level required to change quote settings.
  • QINFOLEVEL: The level required to view quote info.
  • FINDQUOTELEVEL: The level required to search for quotes.
  • QVOTELEVEL: The level required to vote on quotes.

If a setting is not given, it will display the current settings. By default, the quotes features are enabled and quotes added are local only.
It is also possible to change quote-specific settings through this command. You can change whether a quote is public or private. To do this, use:
/msg ChanServ QSET QUOTE <quote ID> <public/private>
!qset QUOTE <quote ID> <public/private>
Instead of a quote ID one can also use the word 'all' which will change the public setting for all quotes of the channel at once.

QINFO - Displays quote information.
/msg ChanServ QINFO <#chan> <quote ID>
!qinfo <quote ID>

QVOTE - Allows people to vote for a quote.
/msg ChanServ QVOTE <#chan> <quote ID> <+/->
!qvote <quote ID> <+/->

FINDQUOTE - Search for the quote IDs matching a given string.
/msg ChanServ FINDQUOTE <#chan> <search string>
!findquote <search string>

QREPORT - Report a quote to the network staff.
/msg ChanServ QREPORT <#chan> <quote ID> <reason>
!qreport <quote ID> <reason>

QCOUNT - Lists the number of quotes in a channel.
/msg ChanServ QCOUNT <#chan>
!qcount
